    • Based on the rations provided how long can you survive on this kit?
    • Paul,

We put this kit in the category of a short term kit. Its food ration and medicine are designed for a 24 to 48 hour period. However, the items in this kit could assist in keeping someone alive for much longer than that, just not as comfortable. For example, the fishing kit could be used over and over again to catch fish or small game.

This kit was designed to be a short term fix while help was either on the way or actively searching for you. These are also very, very good storm preparation kits or kits to be used when space is limited for a larger kit.

This kit is very popular with those preparing for storms or taking long car trips as in both cases, you are likely to receive help within a couple of days. For something like a long trip into the wilderness, we highly recommend one of our larger kits, like our Wilderness Series kits that are now military issue. These include the Wilderness Trekker, Wilderness Guardian, Wilderness Companion and the very popular Wilderness Survivor.

I hope this answers your question and as always, we very much appreciate you stopping by.

      Thank you,
      Brian

    • Thank you for your question. We try to keep at least a 4 year shelf life on the Mainstay food products that we carry. The Ration packs have 1 - 1200 Mainstay bar included in the pack. It also have a Peanut Patty and some hard candy.
